The Magus by John Fowles

The MagusThe Magus by John Fowles

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another fabulous book written by John Fowles.

This is the story of Nicholas Urfe, an English teacher who accepted a job teaching in a private boy’s school in the Greek Island of Phraxos.

By exploring the island during his spare time, he discovers a remote villa owned by Conchis, the magician, the Magus of this story.

His life will change forever after their first meeting. The story has hints of surreal threads with a plenty of psychological game among the main characters.

One you start to read this book, you won’t be able to stop reading, believe me or not.

My next planned readings are The Collector which has a corresponding and unforgettable movie The Collector (1965) with Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar, and A Maggot.

It should be pointed out there is movie based on this book The Magus (1968) with Anthony Quinn, Michael Caine, Candice Bergen. To be checked.

    • The Magus has some new elements that cannot be found at The French Lieutenant’s Woman. I any case, I am planning to read The Collector and A Maggot as well. Thanks for sharing Leslie.
